Inspired by the fountain in which the sculpture sits in the center, the work is a contemporary interpretation of a water droplet. Referencing the natural outdoor element of the installation and the changing extremes of Montreal weather, a sense of transition from cool to warm is achieved through a colour palette that moves from a bright yellow to pastel pink, finishing with a vibrant red.
The surface gradient allows the eye to travel from one vibrant colour atop the sculpture to the hot red on the bottom, referencing the downward fall of a water droplet. Surface and decoration inspiration is taken from the romanticism and indulgence of the Rococo art period, with ornamental curving golden accents scattered
throughout the sculpture.
Through the use of a bright colour palette, simplified shapes, and the decorative use of gold, a sense of playfulness and joy is present. The sculpture is intended to function as a visual welcome to both residents and visitors of the area alike and to appeal to a broad range of viewers, from children to adults, by confidently embracing playfulness and joy.
