The work draws its primary inspiration from a period in the artist’s life when, during her adolescence and early adulthood, she spent five years working at an ice cream shop located inside a shopping mall. This series explores how ice cream and the world of the shopping mall became foundational elements of her identity as both a Québécoise and an artist.
Through their elongated forms, reminiscent of skyscrapers, the three sculptures evoke this personal foundation. The ice cream cones stand proudly atop their pedestals, like triumphant conquerors of her imagination and cultural landscape. The work is also an adaptation of an earlier series of sculptures originally created in wood.
Through its transformation into durable materials and its installation at the unique site of Quartier DIX30, the work becomes even more deeply rooted in its purpose: to pay tribute to both ice cream and the shopping mall.
